On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Mathematics Student Association (Himatika) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) held a Mathematics Talk Show with the theme “Introduction to the Mathematics Study Program and Training on Mathematics Scientific Writing.” The event was conducted virtually via Zoom meeting.
Himatika presented competent speakers in their fields: Dr. Bayu Prihandono, S.Si., M.Sc., as the Head of the Mathematics Study Program (PS Matematika) at FMIPA UNTAN, and Ady Febrisutisyanto, S.Mat., M.Aktr., an alumnus of PS Matematika FMIPA UNTAN. Additionally, the speaker for the Scientific Writing Training session was Aviva Salsabila, a student from PS Matematika.
The event was attended by high school students, university students, lecturers, and alumni from PS Matematika. The purpose of this event, as stated by Himatika chairman Rega Arya Kentana in his opening remarks, was to broaden horizons in the world of mathematics and develop scientific writing skills.
The event proceeded smoothly. At the beginning, all participants in the Zoom meeting solemnly sang the Indonesian national anthem. Following this, Dr. Bayu Prihandono, S.Si., M.Sc., as the Head of PS Matematika FMIPA UNTAN, delivered his presentation. During the introduction to PS Matematika, he not only explained the study program’s vision and mission but also provided information on career profiles for Mathematics graduates, the qualifications of highly competent lecturers, and the facilities and infrastructure available for studying at PS Matematika FMIPA UNTAN. He also briefly discussed some research topics and highlighted the importance of scientific writing in the development of mathematical knowledge.
The event was highly interactive, with numerous questions from participants directed at the speakers. These questions covered various topics, ranging from job prospects for Mathematics graduates to research strategies for writing high-quality scientific papers.
As a speaker and Mathematics alumnus, Ady Febrisutisyanto, S.Mat., M.Aktr., stated that career opportunities for PS Matematika graduates primarily fall into two categories: academicians or practitioners. He also elaborated on the important role of alumni in motivating and guiding students in developing scientific papers. The scientific writing speaker, Avifa Salsabila, a PS Matematika student, also shared her experiences and tips for writing scientific papers. She emphasized the importance of systematic research methodology and in-depth analysis in a scientific work.
