On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the Bachelor Programme in Mathematics from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN) Pontianak held a community service activity. This event, a workshop titled “Enhancing the Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in Mathematics Learning Applications,” took place at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MA N) 2 Pontianak. The activity aimed to introduce the Mathematics Study Program, equip students and teachers with knowledge about Artificial Intelligence (AI), and socialize the Mathematics Competition (KOMET) to the students and teachers at MA N 2 Pontianak.
The event was attended by 42 students and seven teachers from MA N 2 Pontianak, accompanied by six lecturers and eight students from UNTAN’s FMIPA Mathematics Study Program who served as speakers and facilitators. The event began with an opening by Khairunisa, who acted as the MC, followed by welcoming remarks from Mr. Agus Leonardi and the Head of the Mathematics Study Program, Dr. Bayu Prihandono, S.Si., M.Sc.

In the session introducing the Bachelor Programme in Mathematics, Dr. Bayu Prihandono shared information regarding the program’s vision and mission, its curriculum, and career prospects for Mathematics Study Program graduates. He also highlighted the importance of mastering modern technologies like artificial intelligence in today’s education and industry, emphasizing that Mathematics program graduates not only play a role in academia but can also contribute to the development of technologies like AI, which are increasingly relevant in this digital era.
Following the study program introduction, the event continued with a presentation on artificial intelligence in mathematics learning, delivered by Yudhi, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer from the Mathematics Study Program at FMIPA UNTAN. During this session, Mr. Yudhi explained the **fundamentals of artificial intelligence**, from machine learning concepts to its application in mathematics learning apps. He also demonstrated several AI applications that students and teachers can use to help solve mathematics problems, provided interactive explanations, and encouraged students to practice using AI-based applications directly.

In addition, the event also included a socialization of the Mathematics Competition (KOMET), a competition organized by the Mathematics Student Association of the FMIPA UNTAN Mathematics Study Program. This competition aims to boost students’ interest and talent in mathematics. This outreach is expected to foster a competitive spirit and a desire to learn mathematics among students, along with developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, all of which are highly relevant in the digital age.
Through the successful execution of this activity, the Bachelor Programme in Mathematics at FMIPA UNTAN has demonstrated its commitment to supporting educational development in Pontianak, particularly in leveraging artificial intelligence technology to enhance the quality of mathematics learning in schools.
